Occupational Therapy

Listen to this article

I know I’m beyond very late. I’m so sorry. April is\was occupational therapy month. I don’t really need a certain month to appreciate the people in my life because I appreciate them so much every single day! Thank yours. Without them, there might be many naked people everywhere with untied shoes 😂

I want to thank all of my therapists immensely! Every single one of them has touched my life in profound ways and I’ll forever be grateful for that! When anyone asks me a good thing about becoming disabled, they are some of the first people to come to mind! Although most things are awful, I got to meet some of the most amazing people who are like family and mean the world to me! I wouldn’t have had the privilege otherwise. There are different relationships in life but this is a relationship that can only be felt. Describing it can’t fully describe how it feels. There’s a special connection to someone when you need help and knowing they are always right there. That you don’t have to worry because they have a special way of pushing you but will protect you if anything bad happens so you feel brave enough to try.

The Google definition of Occupational therapy:

Occupational therapy is a branch of health care that helps people of all ages who have physical, sensory, or cognitive problems. Occupational therapy can help them regain independence in all areas of their lives. Occupational therapists help with barriers that affect a person’s emotional, social, and physical needs.

There are friends, which they definitely are, but my physical and occupational therapists are so much more than that. I owe them my life! They work on things with every single patient they see that improves their life and health. Always with a genuine excitement, without seeming condescending or making you feel like a baby. Not only physically, they really help you mentally. Most help from others seem to come from some pity but not coming from them.

Unsure friends and family try to prevent something bad from happening and take every precaution. While therapists absolutely wouldn’t want anything bad to happen but they know how to respond if something does. They know what you are capable of and will push you to achieve it. I love going to therapy because they don’t “baby” you like most people. It makes you feel human again and that’s a wonderful feeling.

A lot of people don’t really understand what the occupational therapy profession is until they need one.

Those who never needed one- Oh my goodness! Some people don’t even know what they do or think they help you find a job 😂

I was going to include pictures of my therapy spot but that’s definitely a place where I’d never take pictures with any patients in it. Maybe one day when it’s not too crowded

The things they have taught me have helped me avoid injury or certain death almost daily and I’ll always be so very grateful!

In honor of these very hard working people, educate someone else about the very important work they do and thank yours!
