Overcoming obstacles

Everyone is fighting battles. Some are visible and some aren’t but all of them are horrible to that person so empathize and treat others the way you’d want to be treated. Life is difficult enough for everyone already.

I was thinking about how we are raised. “Don’t stare! Don’t ask questions!”

That way of thinking has made most people fear those with different abilities because it’s unknown and unfamiliar. Then if people become disabled, they actually fear themselves and are tossed into a scary situation instead of already knowing the big, adaptive world available to them. They just think their lives are over. That robs years from people.

How do disabled people feel worthy of anything if the world doesn’t treat them like they are?

I try to wave and smile at every child I see because regardless of what they might be taught, if they are ever in a similar situation, hopefully that memory makes it a little less scary.

I’m in a wheelchair and like to write about things that are important to people with disabilities and the people who love them. I also share any tips I learn along the way. You can help improve things! If you love someone with a disability, spread words that foster awareness, visit lonely people in nursing homes, attend events for the disabled, etc….. If you are disabled, you can do any of those things but, most importantly, just go out and live your life. Make seeing people with disabilities so normal. Make children more at ease. Most importantly, let people see you struggle with certain things to let them see the need for changes and why. People vote against things when they don’t see a big need for them. Instead of ordering everything online, go out to the store sometimes. Seeing it first hand, brings more change. It’s great for your mental health too!

My name is Gina. I’m from NY. I was just a single mom before everything in my life completely changed overnight.

When my life changed so much, so fast, I was so lost and alone. People kept telling me to think about myself for once and do something that I love. Helping others is what I love.

Sure, I have hobbies but I found that I like them when I’m making or doing something for someone else.

I don’t like it for recognition, I just like that I might’ve made a difference in that person’s life whether I know or not.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog and if it helps even one person, it’s worth it to me!
